Plum Island Family Photography
Summer is coming… I can feel it in my bones. There might be snow in the forecast next week but I am here to shout that from this day forward I will be fully pretending it is nice(er) out than it should be. Winter around here just drags along, doesn’t it? So with great excitement for this 9 millionth gray Saturday morning- I will be flooding your feeds and my webpage with one of my favorite shoots last summer. A beautiful quiet morning on Plum Island in Newburyport, MA.
When you think sunrise session, I am sure you go right to the crack of dawn— but in reality, the crack of 8 in the morning works just as well. Ha. The beauty of living North of Boston, specifically in the greater Newburyport area, is the proximity to the beach. We are spoiled for sure and that works out in my advantage all year round. Alas, when you throw a couple of kids in the mix, I have lived a whole life by 8 am some days. So getting out of the house dressed and ready to roll at 7:30 is not only a piece of cake but also kind of a nice little morning break from my own home chaos 🙃. IYKYK.
Regardless, hitting the beach before anyone is really on it is such a privilege. The sand is undisturbed, the sun still starting to peek its head over the ocean. The lighting is bright but forgiving from afternoon shadows. Plum Island has so many little paths and spots to explore (when the Plovers don’t shut down the whole flipping beach that is… don’t even get me on a bird rant because I will GO OFF) and some of my favorite spots, like this one, are really easy to access and a nice little pre-photo walk for the kiddos. I like to keep the kids moving in these sessions, as I am sure if you have worked with me you know this. Beautiful genuine laughs and smiles often accompany twirling and dancing and trying to eat fists full of sand (I am looking at you Heath.)
Again- friendly reminder to click on the photo for the whole thing- portraits are not supposed to be square!
I also love taking some mom and dad portraits at the end of family sessions. I have like zero photos of my husband and I that aren’t selfies- which is a problem that I need to remedy. I typically have (your) kids crawling around my legs showing me things, which I love- but also it’s so worth it every single time.
I adore you Solomon family! Happy Spring (ish.)
