Newborn Portraits in Wakefield, MA

Winter is for newborn sessions over here, and while I completely agree that I owe everyone a nice big old wedding blog post- those suckers take some time to put together as I comb through 600-700…a million photos. I promise, I will get there. Alas, today is a day for one gorgeously beautiful newborn session that I just completely fell in love with. With a mix of beautiful lighting, a beautiful nursery, and a hint (or a bunch) of pink- this portrait session needed to hop on to the blog in a hurry.

If you have had a newborn session with me you know that I am always looking for some texture. I see newborn portraits, the stand alone posed ones, as flat lays with a tiny little person front and center. Flat lays are interesting to look at for a few reasons, mostly because of all of the different colors and textures that can be highlighted at any given time or any given change of focus. With newborn portraits it is the same sort of idea. Adding texture to the base of this portrait below highlights little Sara’s sweet little face and makes her stand out giving the portrait some dimension.

I am really starting to sound like a teacher in this blog post and suddenly having a moment where I am like, hmm should I teach this? The answer is maybe. Ha. Regardless, this portrait above fills my little photography love tank. If I could purchase this wavy chunky rug and lug it around to peoples houses, I would. Alas, the beauty of an in home newborn portrait session is using what is placed before you. Every parent has such a vision of what their newborns room will look like, which makes my job exciting every day. I have seen such beautiful nurseries lately, and bringing lots of props to make my photos look less unique is not how I want to run my business. Finding the light and finding the moments in each portrait session make me so fulfilled. But holy moly are Sara’s stand alone portraits just perfection.

Fun fact: if you click on the photos you will see the whole thing, not just the tiny little square- all of these portraits are much bigger and not square shaped! Ha.

My daughters room is also just very pink. I took a swing when she was growing in my belly and luckily for me, it has paid off so far. Lot’s of “I love my beauuuutiful pink room, Mom” getting tossed around at this house. Win. Sara’s room is so lightly blushed that it just added to the calm quiet vibe of this portrait session. I am always on the hunt for good angles. Hiding in doorways and closets to capture different angles always makes everyone giggle a bit, but well worth it in the end.
