Newburyport Engagement Photography

A gorgeous evening at one of my most favorite beach locations, this engagement portrait session is so full of rich natural colors and beautiful backdrops. As I have a ton of engagement sessions in my near future, I thought it would be fun to go through my top three things for choosing the best location.

  1. Pick a place that has a little bit of meaning (or even the potential of having meaning in the future). If there isn’t a location that jumps out to you and your partner as a place where you frequent or immensely enjoy, choosing a spot that is close to you that you could go to again or bring any future kiddos or pet children to is always an added bonus. For my own engagement portraits, Alex and I chose a little farm nestled in the north shore. Little did we know that would continue to get to that farm almost every weekend through the summer months for years and years now. Ha.

  2. Choose a location that has a variety of backdrops in one area. Variety is the key, and having a few different scenery options that are easy to navigate to in a small amount of time is an added bonus. When getting a huge gallery of engagement photos it would be pretty dull to see the same thing in each background. If you know me, you know I love chasing the sunset. Starting in a place where the colors are vibrant and the sun is higher in the sky and then chasing to a softer location as the sun dips towards the water always gives such gorgeous results (as you will soon scroll to if you have the patience to read all of this!)

  3. And maybe the most important of all- communicate with your photographer (HOPEFULLY MOI!) I have endless ideas, endless backgrounds, endless random spots on the side of the road (IYKYK) that we can adventure to! Backdrops and locations are not only so important to me, but something that I continue to try and find. Throw out any idea and we will roll with it!

  4. SO excited to meet all you new couples in the next few weeks! Enjoy this adorable gallery full of love and sunset and maybe 800 mosquitos (jk I photoshopped them out like a madman!!)
